The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations with the mandate to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development. In its capacity as Co-Chair of GMIS (alongside the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the United Arab Emirates), it convenes a variety of stakeholders at local, regional and the global levels, with the aim of establishing an agreed trajectory for advanced manufacturing technologies, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially Goal 9,  emphasizing the importance to “build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”.
