Over the past decade China has taken the role of the world’s leading manufacturing powerhouse. Industrial growth was steady for much of 2018, although slightly lower than projected towards the end of the year. This session will bring together a cross-section of industry stakeholders to explore some of the challenges and opportunities the country is facing as the Fourth Industrial Revolution unfolds.
• Developing enabling policy frameworks that facilitate innovation
• Shifting to smart manufacturing
• Increasing the ascent of China on global value chains
• The transformation of the Chinese manufacturing base: The offshoring of lower end manufacturing versus the reshoring of higher value added manufacturing
• Investing in high tech industries
• From technology taker to technology maker: China’s transition to 4IR production and its potential effects on global manufacturing
Moderator:
Ms. Xia Yanna, Presidium Member, Federation of Shenzhen Industries;
Chairman, Shenzhen Huazhi Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Co., Ltd.

China’s rise in becoming a major global manufacturing exporter has seen living
standards in the country rise considerably, but has also witnessed an increase in industrial emissions and associated environmental challenges. Hence, Chinese policymakers are devoting priority to moving to a circular economy model to allow recovering value from industrial waste, while materials from finite stocks can be kept in an infinite loop.
As the Chinese economy is going through a transformation into a more service-oriented economy built on consumer, tourism, ICT and semiconductor sectors among many others, the intersection of Industry 4.0 and circular economy creates a unique business case for Chinese enterprises. This session will discuss innovative Industry 4.0 solutions for the circular economy, such as:
• Circular business models based on data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT) (e.g. efficient energy consumption, platforms of the shared economy and Products-as-a-Service (PaaS))
• Novelties in product design and 3D printing resulting in waste reduction
• Computer optimization models resulting in better decision-making and optimized industrial practices
• Data-driven analysis to track resources and products throughout the circular economy, e.g. blockchain improving supply chains and logistics
